A vetenarian consultation is performed
by the
therapist to insure safe and effective treatments, and
to identify treatments already utilized. A history of
the horse is taken to include specific complaint,
breed, and use of the horse. Palpation, visual, and
gait analysis is performed to assess any
abnormalities. Sports massage is then performed to
treat the areas assessed for problems. Follow up of
stretching exercises may be utilized as well, if
appropriate. Modalities such as therapeutic
ultrasound, electrical stimulation, or hot/cold
therapy are also available.
The need for follow up treatment
plan will be assessed after initial treatment. Some horses may
need a massage treatment
once a week or twice a month or more often, depending
upon problem and area.
